Diffusion of Innovations Diffusion of Innovation Theory - sph.bu.edu - Boston UniversityBoston Universityhttps://sphweb.bumc.bu.edu › behavioralchangetheories4              I found this to be an interesting theory.  Why do some people adopt new ideas and technology and some do not.  Is the new really better than the old.  Is the new faster and easier, better? Or are people just used to the old and set in their ways.  I myself have seen examples of this in my own life.  I went to a Junior Boarding School, Cardigan Mountain School for eight through ninth grade.  While at school we were unable to access any social media.  When we came to school we had to turn in our phones, and any other devices that had wifi in to the office.  We were all given an Apple lap top computer to use. The laptops had a program on it where the school could see what we were doing, they limited our use of free internet to two hours a day, and we were unable to access social media websites.  At the time non of u

My  opinion of why you have to seek out obscure anti war websites is that the mainstream media is biased.  The bias of the main stream media was clearly apparent during the Presidential Election of 2020.  Anyone could see from reading, or watching just a blip of the news which way the bias leaned towards.  Fox News clearly favored Trump, while pretty much every other news source ABD, CBS, and NBC favored Biden.  When it comes to war I am not sure where the truth actually lies.  From reading the websites suggested in the Syllabus on Anti War, there seem to be some credible authors on the website. on The American Conservative Website, author Doug Bandow was a former special assistant to President Ronald Reagan.  Most people look at Ronald Reagan as a good President.  My grandfather looks back on "The Reagan Years" as he says they were very good to him as he was employed as a draftsman at Grumann Aerospace Corporation.  I also feel like the government as wel

AI

The AI job Artificial Intelligence                Artificial Intelligence can be defined as the ability of a computer program to learn and think.  Everything can be construed as AI if the computer or program does something that normally would really on the intelligence of an actual human being. There are advantages to AI such as the reduction of human error.  Also the risk involved of a machine doing something that a human would normally do  like defuse a bomb.  Defusing a bomb via  AI could potentially save someone's life. Computers are also available 24 hours 7 days a week where as humans need to sleep.  Computers are also able to perform repetitive jobs without injury.  As humans we can be injured from constant repetitive motions. A computer also can provide Digital Assistance, such as routing a call to the correct phone number, this can improve a Company's customer service satisfaction.  These are some of the positives, there are also negatives.  These AI devices can com

Privacy                    Privacy and data on the internet is another complex situation. On a daily basis we provide our information willing to the internet and hope that it will not be used against u s.  We post pictures on  Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, we use our credit cards to make purchases.  These can all be positive.  These tools allow us to stay connected to friends and family across the world.  It provides a connection to them that we didn't have before.  It can also be used against us.  We hear on the news how our data has been breached by companies who were hacked.  This is a huge inconvenience  for the consumer, sometimes we have to close accounts or get new credit cards.  There are people who do this as a job, they prey on people.  My cousin just had her privacy violated by a hacker.  She was approached by a company on Instagram to become an influencer, the company sent her a check.  When she received the check she cashed it.  Later that day she went to take out m

This is seen every day, a great example is the idiot driving a Tesla with the Apple goggles on. This shows just how attached our civilization is to their screens. Another amazing example was actually during our class earlier this semester when AT&T  servers went down and no one had cell service for about 6 or 7 hours. The amount of sheer panic I witnessed coming from some students was sad.       I think at this point m

gate keeping agenda setting

Image
Gate Keeping/agenda setting           The theory of agenda setting is primarily based on the way the news reports the information it is given based on what's best for the news station. This means the news that is given is being swayed or filtered based on what the news wants the public to think about a story. For example, if a news station is frequently only reporting bad or intentionally skewed information about a candidate who has opposing views than the owners of the news corporations. This is the definition of agenda setting.     The theory of gatekeeping is the act of filtering the news to only report the news that they believe to be important an example of this would be someone with investments in Biden not running any news about Hunter Biden's laptop. They are trying to keep information from the publics eye so it isn't asked about. This is an example of gatekeeping the public from the news.

iPod       The invention of the iPod took the world by storm changing the way the world listened to music. In October 2001 the first iPod was introduced to the world by Apple's own Steve Jobs.  This was a new way to take your entire music collection with you.  Prior to the iPod there was no easy option to listen to all your music on the go.  The clunky walkman required you to carry discs with you to change the music, walking the disc tended to skip causing the music to stop. The iPod was invented to bring a better MP3 player to the market.  Apple was able to take the iPod from idea to launch in one year.  The man who was credited with the idea was Tony Fadell who worked at Apple.  The original iPod had a mechanical wheel where you would scroll through the music library. The original model of the iPod had 5  GB. It had 10 hours of battery life and would fit in your pocket.  It had no moving parts, to select the music there was  a scroll wheel.  The scroll wheel meant no dust or dirt

blog 4 freedom of expression

Freedom of expression     T he right to freedom of expression is one of the most sacred elements in the Constitution of the United States. We are given the right under the first amendment except in exceptional cases  to express oneself freely. Lately, there has been a very fine line in our country regarding freedom of speech. For example, in the Tokyo Summer Olympics the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has ruled that athletes will not be permitted to wear any apparel with a political message during the Tokyo Olympics. The IOC has stated that they will consider punishing any athletes involved in protests or demonstrations during the Olympic Games.  They specifically mentioned slogans like "Black Lives Matter" will. not be allowed.  However, apparel that featured words such as "peace", "respect", "equality" or words of that nature would be permitted. The IOC stated that this rule came about based on a survey they conducted

Dissent Protect  dissent                Protect Dissent, Injustice and the Meanings of America.  Our system is not supposed to be one of mob rule. The First Amendment protects minority views, no matter how unpopular. As a citizen you have a strongly protected right to disagree with the government, and everyone else if you choose.  In fact, it is your patriotic duty to criticize the government.  I agree with this statement.  If you disagree with the government it is your prerogative to speak up, however you must do so in a civilized, peaceful manner.  I would like to use the example of former President's Trump speech and the Capital riot on January 6, 2020. Former President Trump used spoke repeatedly to his supporters to fight Congress on accepting the electoral college results that showed Joe Biden won.  President Trump used the right to free speech, but did his free speech cause the riots?   Trump spoke at a rally for his supporters on January 6, 2020, the supporters gathered a

Supreme Court Justices      The most interesting fact that I took away from reading and watching about the Supreme Court Justice was that  in 1963, the Supreme Court found that defendants who cannot afford legal representation must be provided it without charge ( Gideon v. Wainwright ). It never occurred to me that this was a civil right that had to be fought for.  I guess I  always assumed that it was part of the law or in the Constitution.  It makes sense if you think about it, that the court would have to provide you a a legal representative if you couldn't afford one.  If you were involved in a serious matter you would not be able to represent yourself properly.  The average person doesn't know all the ins and outs of the legal system.  How did people defended themselves before this law came to be, how many were imprisoned, fined, or punished because they couldn't afford to defend themselves. How many of them would have not been imprisoned, fined, or punished if they
