iPod

The invention of the iPod took the world by storm changing the way the world listened to music. In October 2001 the first iPod was introduced to the world by Apple's own Steve Jobs.  This was a new way to take your entire music collection with you.  Prior to the iPod there was no easy option to listen to all your music on the go.  The clunky walkman required you to carry discs with you to change the music, walking the disc tended to skip causing the music to stop. The iPod was invented to bring a better MP3 player to the market.  Apple was able to take the iPod from idea to launch in one year.  The man who was credited with the idea was Tony Fadell who worked at Apple.  The original iPod had a mechanical wheel where you would scroll through the music library. The original model of the iPod had 5  GB. It had 10 hours of battery life and would fit in your pocket.  It had no moving parts, to select the music there was  a scroll wheel.  The scroll wheel meant no dust or dirt could get inside. The first model was able to store 1,000 songs. People really enjoyed this new invention as it enabled them to easily listen to music on the go.  The second generation iPod came out in 2002.  This 2002 model included several upgrades.  The main improvement was the wheel, it went from being a mechanical to a touch sensitive wheel which allowed for easier selection of music. The third generation of the iPod came out in 2004.  This generation was the first generation to have the 30 pin dot connector.  This connector carried video, audio, and power all in one. The success of the 30 pin connector was adopted in to many other future apple products. The last year the classic iPod was manufactured was in 2008 and models included 80GB  for $249 or 160 GB for $349, this model also came in different colors. This had a  LCD screen and included the capability to watch movies. This was also the first product that Apple did not offer in their classic color white. The polycarbonate plastic previously used for the casing was changed to anodized aluminum. The iPod started with generation one in 2001, the last generation was iPod classic generation 6. If you are lucky to still have a first generation iPod in a box you can make some money.  There are listings for original iPods for sale on such sites as eBay that have a starting bid of almost $20,000.
